I the jury now render my verdict:
I decide in favor of the record companies, and the artists
including Metallica.
Reasoning:
The purchase of a CD entails only the purchase of that CD, it does
not include an actual purchase of the music and unlimited rights.
It was clearly the intent under the law that the purchase includes
the right to use that CD for personnal use, however public
performances, ard redistribution are not allowed.
Change of media is allowed if the above personal use is fullfilled.
I would not be surprised to see music start comming out in
envelopes like software, where just by opening the envelope you
agree to a whole series of terms.
