Doug Jones observes:
< Plowing up grassland (or burning down a forest) to put in crops is by
far the largest monkey wrench humans throw into the environment- and
you're worried about new breeds of corn? >
As deft a summary retort as I've seen.
Still doesn't address the particular (and to my mind reasonable)
trepidation about remixing genes in ways not pre-tested by millennia of
natural (or indeed human) selection and broadcasting them everywhere in
industrial quantities.
