There _has_ been. Notably, the British colonial government's victory
against communist insurgents in Aden (around 1960 IIRC -- before my
time). One wonders if a chunk of the mess in NI isn't the consequence
of officers who saw one successful campaign on the ground trying to
replicate it at home a decade or two later.
