I have a friend with this condition. He had his nose surgically repaired
a couple years ago at age 62, after never having had any real sense of
smell. Last time I saw him he told me the surgery was a disappointment,
not because it failed but because it succeeded: he found most smells
unpleasant! He was getting used to it, but had seriously considered
trying to have it reversed. spike
