It would be pretty hard to find any musical genre which comes out of a
vacuum. Each such comes from that which came before. If you use chords, or
harmony, or just major/minor scales (or any defined scale maybe), then
you're stealing that idea from the people who thought of it.

I think there's a line to draw when directly taking someone else's recording
and making new music out of it, but there's a lot of latitude. It really
throws light on the difficulties that arise when information is treated as
highly segregated chunks - This chunk's mine, that chunk's yours.
