I'd love to be optimistic about this, but I don't see things changing much.

It just strikes me that we've closed out the millennium (according to the
conception of the majority, arithmetic aside) with an almost frightening
array of music stars that have little to do with music. The female teenage
sex symbols and the So Adorable boy bands...adolescent fantasies indeed.
With respect to conformity, I imagine future body mods will follow the same
path as current body mods: fringe for a while, now everyone needs one. Once
full on figure-shifting reaches the mainstream...yikes.

On the plus side, satire should help. A Lot. Granted, we'll most likely
have boys rushing to look like GI Joe and girls rushing out to look like
Britney Spears and all that blather (gender roles die hard). I'm much more
interested in the wide range of ways people will find to make the standard
body mod (ie bland female model type) look silly. Linux shenanigans applied
to the human form, can't wait };>.
