As if IBM's announcements yesterday weren't enough, they could
be taken with a grain of salt since they were "future-ware".
AMD tops it off today with the announcement of "production"
1.1 GHz ATHLON(tm) processors. See:

If they can produce these in quantity, they are going to eat
Intel's lunch. The Geek crowd is going to move en-masse
to AMD because AMD is making it easy for them to tweek
the Microprocessors while Intel on the other hand is trying to
play "big brother" and not let you have any fun with your toys.
I'll simply note that this is 10% ahead of the SIA projected clock
rate for Y2K.
