in Portland, Oregon, USA

Gaia University was a potent presence at City Repair’s 10th annual Village
Building Convergence
<http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=208&F=H>in
Portland, Oregon, May 28th – June 6th. A combined permaculture and natural
building conference, giant volunteer work-party and deep exercise in
community building, the VBC brings together world-changers from across the
country and around the world to share their knowledge and collaborate on
local projects. Sites throughout Portland combine urban
‘placemaking’<http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=260&F=H>initiatives
with public workshop offerings that run the gamut from eco-roof
construction to rainwater catchment to mushroom cultivation. This year’s
evening festivities featured a community dinner, live music, and
presentations from leading ecosocial actionists such as
Starhawk<http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=252&F=H>,
Mark Lakeman<http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=259&F=H>and
Transition
PDX <http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=251&F=H>.
Also among the keynote speakers were James Stark and Penny Livingston, the
founders of Gaia University’s newest regional center, Gaia
RDI<http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=253&F=H>,
and Gaia University Co-presidents, Andrew Langford and Liora Adler.

Gaia U Partners with Peace Corps [image: peace corps image small.jpg]
Gaia University associates seeking international project opportunities will
soon be able to apply their action learning goals towards service in the Peace
Corps <http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=254&F=H>.
A new collaboration between Gaia University and the Peace Corps will enable
students to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Integrative Ecosocial
Design with the standard two-year Peace Corps commitment serving as their
capstone (final) year. Associates will engage in projects that address food
insecurity and global climate change through permaculture design, organic
farming, health education and community organizing.

Trent Rhode Wins Scholarship
from Country of POiU Initiative

When the Country of POiU
Initiative<http://128.177.27.120/emailmarketer/link.php?M=12874&N=39&L=261&F=H>,
a value exchange project with its own complementary currency, offered to
fund a half-scholarship to a Gaia U associate to consult on both technical
and ecological issues, Trent Rhode, a master’s candidate, felt he would be
an excellent fit. "I have been using computers as a primary form of
expression – digital imaging, web design, communication and writing – most
of my life. I am also an experienced permaculture designer and instructor.”
At an organizational level, Gaia University is itself an excellent fit with
POiU, as we strongly encourage the research and development of systems that
make it possible for people to grant each other mutual credit to fund
projects of ecosocial merit. The term 'mutual credit' means that all
participants in the system agree to support the value and usefulness of the
currency for themselves and each other; the currency is 'backed' by the
mutual trust and integrity of its users.
