Dear ICC participants,
I hope this finds you well and still with energy before a well
deserved holiday-break.
I would like to draw your attention to some ICC-related issues,
especially the reporting some of us have done after the conference.
*First of all, let me share with you some reports that attempt to
describe what happened at the ICC:*
In English, prepared by David Bollier (see attachment)
In Spanish, prepared by Beatriz Busaniche
http://www.bea.org.ar/2010/11/conferencia-internacional-sobre-bienes-comunes-reporte-en-espanol/
The report about the project visits on October 31 was prepared by
Elisabeth Vosshttp://p2pfoundation.net/Berlin_Commons_Conference/ProjectVisits
Something important we are missing is James Quilligan's keynote, since
it was in the room without streaming
facilities and translations we do not have a record. But I remember that
somebody made one. If this somebody is reading these lines, please drop us a
note. We would like to "rescue" James' talk. Thanks in advance!
One of the major issues discussed after the conference was the
scarcity vs abundance approach to the commons.
The discussion was kicked off by Brian Davey who felt inspired by
Roberto Verzola's
presentation.http://p2pfoundation.net/Abundance_of_Food_vs_the_Abundance_of_Recipes
The speed project presentators and all those who recorded their
project proposals can find the *video-clips here:

*
We hope to host them elsewhere in order to make it easier to embed them.
Some of our support team members are currently helping us to complete
the workshop documentation, whereafter (in January) we'll try to
develop a draft document, drawing upon the conference documents,
outlining what a commons-based policy plattform might look like.
We will complement this effort with public discussions on the Steering
Committee document, "Some Thoughts on the Commons," which was released
at the conference. We also hope to produce further strategy papers
and perhaps convene a small strategy meeting in 2011 to discuss
future plans.
Please have a look at the Berlin Commons Conference Wiki for a
detailed list of your blogposts and comments on
ICC.http://p2pfoundation.net/Berlin_Commons_Conference#Post-Conference
Great list so far! Thank you so much for your contributions.
We would be happy to post any additional short reports or assessments
of the ICC, especially *in Spanish and French! *
If there are anything blog posts, articles or other accounts of the
conference that are not already on the wiki, please let me know.
*As for future communication. *
We want to invite you to join the Commoning e-mail list. Please find
general information about the mailing list at
http://lists.wissensallmende.de/mailman/listinfo/commoning
If you wish to stay connected with the commons discussions catalyzed
by the ICC, please join the list, since this is the last mail you'll
get from the ICC team.
Any further communications will take place through the Commoning listserv.
Finally I would like to draw your attention to* a questionnaire
*prepaired by Mayo Fuster as a first step to map conceptions,
strategies and practices on the commons.
This action-participation research aims to systematise and map the
several conceptions, strategies, practices and resources about the
commons that were represented at the ICC.
The methodology consist of a questionnaire to ICC participants as well
as a content analysis of the manifestos and documents distributed or
referred to at the Conference.
I will send the questionnaire shortly. If possible, please send your
answers before 31th December 2010 by e-mail to
Mayo.Fuster at eui.eu.<Mayo.Fuster at eui.eu>
Now that we have a little perspective on the ICC, we remain as convinced as
ever that interest and enthusiasm about the commons will only grow in the
future. We have build an important base for future work. Now we must find
the best ways to make the most of the energy and intelligence that you
brought to Berlin. Thank you so much for helping make the potential of the
commons so visible.
Merry Christmas and a wonderfull New Year!
Warm regards
For the ICC Steering Committee
