Dear young Greens in Europe,

As you might have noticed, Facebook has recently suggested several
changes to their Privacy Policy and their Statement of Rights and
Responsibilities and asked for user feedback. The suggested revisions
raise a number of privacy issues. Therefore BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN have
started a cross party initiative in Germany in order to raise awareness
among the users and draw attention to these issues. As a sort of
grassroots protest we have founded a Group on Facebook dedicated to
raising awareness and protesting. The Group is called "Facebook Privacy
Control - NOW!". As the English title suggests, this group is meant to
be a forum for international protest. We need your help in spreading
this information and kindly ask you to share this information with as
many people as possible. The Facebook group can be found here:

Thanks and all the best,

Malte Spitz (German Greens)

The main issues raised and purpose of the group can be found in the
group information, which follows for your convenience.

Facebook has recently suggested revisions to their Privacy Policy and
Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (SRR). Sadly, the approach
points into the wrong direction: in the future it will be possible for
Facebook to provide our personal data to third parties, without prior
consent. The only way to respond is to opt-out at the third party website.

This change in Facebooks approach towards user privacy is unacceptable.
This group intends to send a strong signal towards Facebook, that
privacy is not dead and should not be reduced little by little.

Our demands are:

No sharing of data with third parties without prior consent, we want
opt-in not opt-out!

On change of privacy controls by facebook these should be set to
„friends-only“ not to „everyone“. We want to be asked before our data is
shared!

A transparent revision process that includes all stake-holders!

A joint development of high global privacy standards with
participation of privacy experts, consumer advocates and users. Only
users who are confident their data won´t be abused are happy users.

The copyright for images and texts have to stay with the users!

Applications shall not receive my friends' data, only the data I or they
consent to!

We want to continue using Facebook without abandoning our privacy. With
this group we want to proove that a lot of users resent Facebook's
behavior. We want to encourage you to take action against the imminent
changes.
