[p2p-research] Helping the Helpless

Hi Nathan,

Perhaps. I think it is because I lack the zeal to be a true believer in
anything. I think the Gospels called my type "poor in spirit." Poets call
it melancholy. It is a general sense that enough can't be done...and that
one is consumed in trying to walk an endless path. I admire (and always
have) those monkish few who live justly, calmly and for the "other."

Happiness for me comes with acceptance, balance, occasional journeys and
expeditions into the righteous, and a realization that I'm not going to go
through my days grinning and feeling fulfilled...whether or not that is
OK...well, it doesn't much matter.

I'm increasingly attracted to fiction as I get older...especially the
Russian 19th century novelists who both loved their country and hated the
injustices and perversions of their day. That is what life is like for
me...a big screwed up novel. Hopefully there are a few heroes who go on
journeys and change for the better. But I am probably not one of them. I
am a stall keeper in a village or a fisherman with broken hands in some
fjord. The heroes walk by me and have a few words on their ways to figuring
something out.
