There are two sources of productivity gains.  One is
automation/computers/networks and, increasingly, robotics.  The second is
the enormous gains from R&D spillover...especially research at universities,
in engineering, medicine and business.

Workers are not better paid, it's true.  And they are working harder.  It
isn't going to get better before it gets worse.

As you and I both know, the good news for workers is largely past in the
sense that their productivity gains will start peaking and they will be
automated away increasingly.

Really the great outstanding issue for humanity besides carbon is dealing
with surplus labor.  The answers to those two questions will define
this century and the future of the planet.
