[p2p-research] a short message on our list culture and authority arguments

I see a number of lists I track going through normative issues now.  I think
your response is the right one, generally.

I have often wondered whether the computer information explosion of the last
3-5 years in particular has led to political polarization, or whether it has
simply allowed people to become more set in their ways.
Uncharacteristically, I am optimistic.  I believe people are learning very
rapidly.  We will all hear voices and tones we don't want to hear.  Others
may judge our edits, but we certainly have the right to make them.

Something is also going on with small communities versus large that is
important to P2P.  Tight knit meshes are more familial.  Larger ones are
more contentious.  Of course no one fights more fiercely and unfairly than
families.  Simple social rules-of-thumb are usually wrong.  There's a big
opening for someone to write a thesis on the psychology of P2P.
