Subject: National Study on Speeding Financial Inclusion - Call for Responses
To: michelsub2004 at gmail.com

 Respected fellow traveller,

The need for speeding poverty eradication and financial inclusion
initiatives is well understood. There seem to be divergent views on what
would it take to do so. Depending on whether you are an academic, an
economist, a practitioner, a technology provider, a telecom company, an NBFC
or a bank (the list of stakeholders is only indicative), the remedies and
routes proposed could differ.

There is also the issue of the felt needs of poor and the financially
excluded who may be quite agnostic to the type of card or technology being
used or the delivery mechanism (a banking correspondent, a facilitator, a
MFI or an NBFC etc.) of the relief - as long as there is relief (see "Life
after Pilots"<http://app.e-campaigner.com/c/4061372/387/vybPiDd/7TVm?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.skoch.in%2Finclusion%2Fhtml%2Finclusion-jul-sep-2008.html%3Futm_source%3Decampaigner_email_marketing_system%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_content%3D4061372%26utm_campaign%3DNational%2520Study%2520on%2520Speeding%2520Financial%2520Inclusion%2520-%2520Call%2520for%2520Responses>
).

Given the recent meltdown (see "The Global Meltdown and Indian Policy
Response"<http://app.e-campaigner.com/c/4061372/389/vybPiDd/7TVm?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Finclusion.skoch.in%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26amp%3Bview%3Darticle%26amp%3Bid%3D68%26utm_source%3Decampaigner_email_marketing_system%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_content%3D4061372%26utm_campaign%3DNational%2520Study%2520on%2520Speeding%2520Financial%2520Inclusion%2520-%2520Call%2520for%2520Responses>),
the new found visibility into toxic debt and collapse of many a celebrated
financial institutions in the developed world - there is an argument for
continuing caution and prudence that may call for a fine balancing act by
the government and the regulators.

Our recently launched book entitled "Financial
Inclusion"<http://app.e-campaigner.com/c/4061372/391/vybPiDd/7TVm?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fcorporate.skoch.in%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26amp%3Bview%3Darticle%26amp%3Bid%3D149%26amp%3BItemid%3D228index.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26amp%3Bview%3Darticle%26amp%3Bid%3D149%26amp%3BItemid%3D228%26utm_source%3Decampaigner_email_marketing_system%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_content%3D4061372%26utm_campaign%3DNational%2520Study%2520on%2520Speeding%2520Financial%2520Inclusion%2520-%2520Call%2520for%2520Responses>argues
for inclusive economics and inclusive governance enabled by a
technology framework.

We (skoch development foundation in association with skoch consultancy
services) are now conducting a national
study<http://app.e-campaigner.com/c/4061372/393/vybPiDd/7TVm?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fcorporate.skoch.in%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26amp%3Bview%3Darticle%26amp%3Bid%3D423%26amp%3BItemid%3D509%26utm_source%3Decampaigner_email_marketing_system%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_content%3D4061372%26utm_campaign%3DNational%2520Study%2520on%2520Speeding%2520Financial%2520Inclusion%2520-%2520Call%2520for%2520Responses>that
seeks to understand all these points of views and to attempt a
harmonization of these with the felt needs of the poor. We hope to be able
to get some answers in time for the 20th Skoch Summit to be held on from
16-18th July 2009 at
Mumbai<http://app.e-campaigner.com/c/4061372/395/vybPiDd/7TVm?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fcorporate.skoch.in%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26amp%3Bview%3Darticle%26amp%3Bid%3D165%26amp%3BItemid%3D209%26utm_source%3Decampaigner_email_marketing_system%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_content%3D4061372%26utm_campaign%3DNational%2520Study%2520on%2520Speeding%2520Financial%2520Inclusion%2520-%2520Call%2520for%2520Responses>
