Hi Dmytri,

ning is like a facebook without frills, it's less efficient for networking,
but better at forums and discussion ...

but our ning is rather weak, because it has no maintainer, and I'm
overwhelmed, but it is not dead and the one big advantage is the visibility
of the 'members'

I use it as a secondary  blog, for putting things when the regular blog is
full, or when it has a more pragmatic/practical nature ... i.e. conference
announcements, calls for assistance, etc...

what works best for us in terms of audience is the wiki (8m page views in 3
years), the blog (reaching 2,500 readers per day), and the very active
mailing list (600 contributions per month); it's the latter that really
keeps the community together I think, though I have no idea how many people
read it .. but about 20 people are very active contributors ..

My rule is, if  you don't give, you don't get ...<g>
