Subject: Yi-Tan Tech Community Call 237 - Twitter Revolutions? - 1:30pm EST,
Monday July 6, 2009
To: Yi-Tan List <Yi-Tan at googlegroups.com>

 Greetings,

How is social media affecting coups, insurrections and protests around the
world?

We've talked some about the Obama campaign's peaceful use of social media.
More recently, Guatemala<http://www.good.is/post/the-%E2%80%9Ctwitter-revolution%E2%80%9D/>,
Moldova <http://www.undispatch.com/node/8033> and
Iran<http://%20http//www.nytimes.com/2009/06/23/world/middleeast/23censor.html>have
all been called "Twitter Revolutions".

The Iran <http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23iranelection> standoff
andHonduras<http://search.twitter.com/search?q=Honduras>'
new crisis are both trending topics now on Twitter Search. The tweets around
Iran have seemed focused and helpful; those about Honduras are hardly
helpful at all.

All together, let's discuss:

   - What effects can social media have? Do the tweets and videos help or
   hurt?
   - Between spinners and spammers, is this moment over? How can we reclaim
   it?
   - Is a new news format emerging? What happens next here?

As always, an IRC
Chat<http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/yi-tan/irc_chat?wikiPageId=163280>will
be available during the call,
here.

Tweeting has taken a big step forward: we're now
@yitan<http://twitter.com/yitan>!
Please follow us, and let's also continue using
#yitan<http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23yitan>.
