*The Wounded Male Geek: My Vision of Terence
McKenna<http://www.realitysandwich.com/sites/realitysandwich.civicactions.net/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=2337&qid=76599>
*
by Adam Elenbaas
After a terrific and scary psychedelic journey, I realized that I needed a
mentor. I found Terence McKenna. Several years later, during an Ayahuasca
ceremony, a vision of Terence taught me to stop relying so heavily on my
intellect and reach out from my heart.

*Imaginal Hygiene*<http://www.realitysandwich.com/sites/realitysandwich.civicactions.net/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=2338&qid=76599>
by M.T. Xen
Imaginal hygiene is the inner art of self-managing the imagination, to
defend it from forces that compromise, pollute, and sterilize it, and to
cultivate those that illuminate and nourish it. Knowledge of this is
essential to the story of human survival into the 21st century.

*Meditation on Creativity*<http://www.realitysandwich.com/sites/realitysandwich.civicactions.net/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=2339&qid=76599>
by Noa Jones
Meditation is no match for procrastination, laziness, and the draw of a
crack-of-dawn email check. These afflictions arrest meditation and art, and
have to be conquered by sheer discipline, the mark of great artists and
great meditators.

by Daniel Pinchbeck
The breakdown of our financial system presents an opportunity to make a new
start. We could develop a different intention for what we are supposed to be
doing together on this swiftly tilting planet, and institute new social and
economic infrastructure to support that intent.

by Daenin Tejeda
Although I had never smoked marijuana myself, I noticed that partakers of
this plant became susceptible to foreign entities. I decided to investigate,
and followed the smoky wisp spirits into the green underworld.

Since peak oil was predicted in 1956, the prospect of any constructive
response has grown steadily more distant. Neither political reform nor
withdrawing to mountain hideaways are viable responses to our predicament.
Is it too late to negotiate the collapse of fossil-fueled civilization?

RS: What brought you to Reality Sandwich?

A. I met Daniel at a party (just kidding). Actually, it was a little more
fortuitous. I'm a friend of RS contributor Erik Davis who connected me with
Daniel and the original print version of RS (when it was Evolver), for which
I wrote a piece. When Daniel and I finally hooked up, a bunch of us had a
"meeting of the mind's eye" as we spent a night cruising art events and
readings in Brooklyn (along with Propaganda Anonymous) while connecting
deeply around the potential relationship between pre-Columbian philosophy
and modern media. The initial dialog continued when RS was launched. What
motivates me to continue contributing to RS is the opportunity to be
involved in a community of lively minds and open hearts, where it's safe to
talk about all the strange things we are normally forbidden to discuss (such
as in my current role as a "professor"). Doing RS reminds me of the energy
we felt in the old punk days when we made it up as we went, and enjoyed
experimenting with the communication tools we had at the time (Xerox
machine, typewriter, glue, scissors-- no PCs back then!). Now we have a big
new toy to play with called the Internet, and I think it's incredibly fun
and dynamic to filter, link, connect, chat, comment and dialog
instantaneously with an intelligent, like-minded tribe of freaks. It's hard
to come by, so I offer gratitude.

RS: What transformations do you hope to see in your lifetime?

A. Basically I expect the last 5,000 year-cycle of civilization to end. What
I mean by that is not death and destruction (because that's what we *will*
have if civilization does not evolve), nor the end of time in the scary
sense that suddenly we'll be sucked into a black hole or destroyed by evil
aliens. I think we will go back to time as art, and reconnect with nature,
which has been veiled from our perception because of the various historical
trends we are well familiar with: patriarchy, war, monotheism, capitalism,
industrialization, etc. I don't foresee us going back to caves or anything
particularly primal, nor do I see the end of conflict per se, but what I do
see is that all the current systems that have maintained us and driven our
reality and paradigms are failing badly. They simply won't survive and will
take down those who refuse to shift gears and surf the changes with open
architecture and open hearts. Facilitating the emergent shift will be
networks of like-minded folks who engage in mutual aid, education and
support, alternative economic and media practices, nonviolent communication
(and resistance), some kind of meditation or yogic practice, a little punk
rebellion, and dynamic integration between local production for food and
living, and global exchange for culture and art. I also know that it will be
like nothing we expect, and at the same time quite normal. It's the ancient
future. Incidentally, everything I mentioned is already happening-- so enjoy
the ride!

Cheers,

Daniel, Ken, Jonathan, Michael, Steven, ST, Kris, Jennifer, Maya, Jeffrey,
Caroline and the rest of the Reality Sandwich team.
