[p2p-research] Google to tear down social networking walls

I see this as the logical progression in social media.
Of course, corporations that base their income on gatekeeping in some way
(keeping people using their services, and making them pay or watch ads to do
so) will fight this, so it's not inevitable that things will be open and
focused on the needs of the users. With Google supporting this, it's a huge
boost, and odds are that the social networking will become a lot more
useful, and probably less obnoxious - e.g. Facebook will loses its
advantage, won't be able to require you to join the site to connect with
your friend Sally Smith, and so they'll have to provide a more open kind of
service, and work harder to keep the people they already have.
