Marc,
I would be interested in you fleshing this out ....
the issues are:
- if there is a commons, universally available, then different commercial
parties should have equal right to create businesses around it, including
Wales, and it is expected that the in-crowd has certain advantages; to make
this illegitimate, are there other privileged advantages?
- in terms of governance, the community and nonprofit have to be protected
fron undue domination by a particular commercial project; in this case, this
may be an issue, as wales is both ultimate arbiter, 'community rep' and has
a commercial stake
I'm not clear that what he is doing is illegitimate, but if it is, we need
some clearcut facts and answers as why this would be so,
I can sympathize to a certain extent with Jimmy Wales, in view of my own
situation,
Having given a lot to p2pf, which is a commons, I also tried to make a
living from the knowledge gained, and though I had privileged relations, I
think that was legitimate, and the same path was open to all
Similarly from evan promodrou of wiki travel, noboby seems to be critical of
his publishing efforts ...
so: how exactly do we draw the line?
