I suspect that it links to the discussion on the threat of networks...it's a
set of chic neo-ludditism by elites afraid they will be made redundant.
This time it isn't a guy with a saw or a wrench, it's a designer, an
architect, a doctor or accountant being threatened by machines and by p2p
networks that swarm data into self-improving algorithms.
One of the responses will be radical localism and agrarian luddite / hippy
revolt. But as so many science fiction writers have suggested, I think the
real sway will be toward micro-tech innovations--garage shops of
super-computer driven biotechnology and engineering. The future belongs to
the tinkerer. It always has.
