[p2p-research] open source alternative to second life

I started trying to find out what license the Server-Side code is
under and discovered that although there were reports in April 2007
that the Server code would be Open Sourced, but it seems that never
panned out.

Sorry about the confusion.

On the other hand, I would like to help develop such an alternative,
especially if anyone is interested in connecting the in-game costs
directly to the real-world costs of hosting.

I would also suggest that the many arbitrary restrictions that appear
in such games/simulations be removed in the name of realism - so we
can use this as planning grounds for a real society.

For instance, when you try to enter or take someone else's property,
the game shouldn't stop you with an invisible force-field because then
the participants don't have to figure out how to implement such
security in a way that is transferable back to our real-world.
