[p2p-research] Open letter to Routledge

Hi Michel,

Well its true, it can get too expensive.

The reason is that most specialist research monographs tend to be published
first as hard back copies and sold mainly to libraries (uni and public
libraries, or big companies do and can afford them), because they normally
appeal to a very limited audience. Then if and when the book is more popular
it is done again in paperback, targetting students etc, and it then becomes
much more affordable.

A way round this problem if you want to get your hand on any of this type of
specialist exensive stuff is to ask for a review copy from the publisher, to
write a review on the book you are interested in, they will send you one.

It would be particularly bizarre for me to sign a letter to Routledge as it
is the publisher for 3 books I am involved in 3 different series, but I am
willing to sign a letter all the same, as not many people can initially
afford to buy anything i write, so i have to send illegal electronic copies
and the like to people, its kind of restrictive, I agree, I am with you

cheers

athina
