Subject: Yi-Tan Tech Community Call 211 - Smart Grids - 1:30pm EDT, Monday
December 22, 2008
To: Yi-Tan List <Yi-Tan at googlegroups.com>

Greetings,

The "smart grid" isn't very smart yet. One of its major deficits is the lack
of standards, which makes it hard for devices to communicate with it about
their power usage.

GridPoint <http://www.gridpoint.com/> has developed an open platform to
tackle that problem. With it, utilities can manage energy loads,
incorporating modern elements like hybrid cars that can generate local
power.

With GridPoint's chief strategy officer Karl
Lewis<http://www.yi-tan.com/wiki/yi-tan/Karl_Lewis?wikiPageId=1588667>,
let's discuss:

   - What are the elements of a smart grid? What is GridPoint's role?
   - How does open source fit in? What other companies get to play?
   - When might the smart grid become a reality? What is the most likely
   path?

As always, an IRC
Chat<http://www.yi-tan.com/wiki/yi-tan/irc_chat?wikiPageId=163280>will
be available during the call,
here. And let's continue tweeting, using
#yitan<http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23yitan>
.
