There are several ways that we could do it. We can try the way that you
suggest above, for sure. I am also trying to figure out how to make an
option for a recurring billing of an amount specified by the donator. I
think I am going to hold off on that, though, until we have a basic process
worked out. I like your ideas above, and I'll try to incorporate them into a
very simple process.

Rigth now, I have it set up so that people can plug in any amount they want
as a "donation".

So, we could simply send out a reminder once per month, asking people to
participate. People could then be directed to a "form" where they fill in
how much they've donated, or whether they want to defer to another month.

Also, there should be a legal agreement that specifies what this site/group
is explicitly, where the money goes, etc, and new people will "agree" before
entering.

I was thinking that we could actually start out with a simple
proposal/discussion/consensus poll among the group. This could be a seperate
"group" within the site, or a seperate menu item, where we
propose/discuss/vote on how we collectively want to invest. Eventually, we
could also set up an adjoining site that lets us open up a "fundcamp" style
site, where people from the wider world may also solicit us about investing,
and we can apply some of the processes from Fundcamp (like mentoring,
multi-dimensional rating, perhaps other process that we develop etc). This
could be a kind of seed-accelerator/investing "club". But we can keep it
simple to start out with and just amke a simple process rigth int he
existing site.

Ok, we may have to formalize it a little more to comply with at least US
law, if not others, at least beyind our initial beta-test group

I was thinking that for the 40% that is "available for for-benefit
activities. People describe their activities, and if x number of members say
'ok', the money is given to them" that people could have a specific form
that they fill out on the site that is a "donation request". In it, they
list how much they need, and what they intend to spend it on, and
approximate cost breakdown of what they want to spend it on. If some of us
have the resources they were going to buy, such as server space, time,
programming knowledge, etc, we may offer it in lieu of money. the donation
requestor could then decrease that amoutn off of the donation request. This
is optional, but can add a dimension of donating services instead of money
9or "in-kind" types of donations instead of money) The way I describe above
is a simple way to do it. Does that make sense?

This seems like a good idea. We'll keep it at a dozen, until we all agree
it's ready to expand (plus we'll need to make sure eveything we're doing is
fully legal in all quaters where people are participating.)
