These are good points. I especially agree with Glen's last one. After all, the average person does not really identify with monkeys and apes. And if we'd expect that kind of violent reaction, why haven't nations gone to war over it, especially given that most developed nations have large animal rights movements and have banned all manner of cruelties to nonhumans? We must remember that the uplifted species will be a new species -- not merely the same one with some enlightenment.
