I've answered my own previous question on the Biosphere 2 problem:
Excessively high organic content in the soil resulted in high CO2 production
and high O2 consumption. CO2 was adsorbed by the concrete, and plants did
not make up the O2 loss.

Current research focuses on experiments on CO2 and various ecosystems. It
always seems that the best scientific experiments are the failures, which get
recycled into new experiments.
