Speaking as a consequentialist, I would have to strongly disagree on this point. The death penalty is acceptable if and only if it is an effective deterrent.

As for whether it really is effective or not, I'm not certain. Some tell me yes, others tell me no. I think the jury's still out on this one.

And, I should also add, I don't think there is or should be an Extropian position on the death penalty.
