Great idea. Let's only consider Afghanistanas an example. [1] and [2]
state, that 723,550,000 square meters remain to be cleared. The number of
mines are estimated between 3 and 30 millions. This gives 24,1 to 241 sqm
per mine. The arithmetic middle would be 108 sqm per mine.
How many cats would you need to find one mine in an area of 10*11 meters?
100? Let's say you breed extremely good mine searching cats, so that you
only need 10 cats per mine. So, 30,000,000 to 300,000,000 cats must dropped
onto the land.
How much does it cost to raise a cat until she's ready for mine searching?
$0.50/day? Very cheap cat food, I assume... How long does it take? 6
months? This means $90 per cat, or $270,000,000 to $2,700,000,000 total.
Not included are training and transport, because this would have to be paid
for human deminers also.
What about the 90% of the cats that survive? 27,000,000 to 270,000,000
cats. I wonder what the consequences for the ecosystem of the land would
be. Any ideas?
BTW, I suggest to have all cats wear a collar with a cat meat receipe in
arabic... What about cat meat as the new export article of Afghanistan? No?
Kai, off for christmas dinner
