This defeats the style of Performance Art, which was derived from the "Happening" genre. A Happening "happens" and whoever is in the audience or merely walks by becomes part of the experience. Unannounced and spontaneity is the key quality of Happenings. Performance Art, however, can be a preplanned, or staged event with formal invitations, press releases, and opening parties.

"Malepregnancy" is conceptual art and actualized through digital design and animation in the Internet venue. The fact that it catches the viewer by surprise makes the moment a type of Happening. The artist is not required to tell anyone that it is conceptual. The shock value of the piece is what makes it so good.
