The drumbeats for draconian anti cloning legislation died down a lot after
September 11, people had other things to worry about, but that's changing.
On Sunday Advanced Cell Technology published what was essentially the
results of a failed cloning experiment in a obscure electronic medical journal,
at the same time they wrote articles in news and popular science magazines
(Scientific American) trumpeting it as the breakthrough of the century that
will change life forever, articles full of sound and fury signifying nothing.
On the positive side at least other cloning researchers now know what will
not work so they can try other things, on the negative side legislators and
the general public are getting all hot and bothered again.
