Damien Broderick quoted:
For now, said Dr. Steven DeKosky, who directs the Alzheimer's Disease
Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh, the Dutch study is
encouraging.
"This is solid circumstantial evidence," Dr. DeKosky said. "It is probably
the strongest evidence so far that anti-inflammatory drugs can quiet things
down perhaps enough to delay the onset of the disorder.
### I talked to Dr DeKosky (who is the chairman of my department) some time
ago about this. While he does not recommend taking NSAIDs now, the studies
to be finished at the end of next year could mean a new pill for me (in
addition to Zocor and other goodies). I know some neurologists who are
taking Celebrex (a CO-2 inhibitor, a type of anti-inflammatory agent with
fewer gastrointestinal side effects) already.
