For all you Moore's law fans, consider today's state of the art 2K$
desktop confuser, a 2GHz Pentium4, compared to the state of the
art 2K$ confuser of only 3.5 yrs ago, the 400 MHz P2. There
are many possible benchmarks, but if you use the GIMPS project,
the Prime95 in its processor optimized form, it runs right at 10 times
faster on todays machine as on my 3 yr old geezer.
