Cold Fusion is not dead. Since the initial claims, counterclaims,
confusions, the field has settled down as a reasonably
well pursued field all over the world as evidenced by many
conferences and publications. From the experimental point of
view the results are sporadic and the optimum conditions are
still unknown. The theoretical situation is no better than the
experimental situation. The theory of this process (and of
the Free Energy processes) which Giuliano Preparata published
in *QED Coherence in Matter'*, World Scientific Publ. Co.,
Hongkong 1995, is being carried on by other researchers.
Thus the theorist Prof. Peter Hagelstein (MIT) shows
that the inner motion of the two nucleons in the nucleus
of heavy hydrogen, which is locked into the palladium lattice,
is coupled with the lattice vibrations, which means
the heat reservoir. Thus heat from the deuterium
nucleus can flow into the Palladium lattice, giving the
energy surplus. On the other hand, highly energetic
nuclear processes such as alpha decay or transmutation
can be catalyzed.
S. Chubb and T. Chubb compare some aspects of Cold Fusion
to, i.e., the Mossbauer effect. They are suggesting that groups
of atoms band together in what is called a meta-particle,
a change which affects them simultaneously. Which explains
how the heat manages to couple to the lattice
at the speed of a nuclear reaction, without tearing apart
the host metal: a superluminal electrolysis.
