When a television reporter said (in passing) something naive
about Jewish culture, my friend Lee Gold stood up in a fury
and said to her husband, "When I'm dead I want you to use my
estate to set up a foundation that will harass people who
claim that Shakespeare [rather than his creation Polonius]
said `Neither a borrower nor a lender be,' ... [other examples
forgotten] ... or that the Kaddish[?] is a prayer for the dead."
(Her point being that the Kaddish is about life going on.)
