TRAVEL: Extro-3 and beyond

I'm visiting the US between Aug 4 and Aug 22, in order to attend
Extro-3, and, I hope, to travel to Texas and see the nanotech
startup Zyvex (http://www.zyvex.com) and the AI company Cycorp
(http://www.cyc.com). I'd welcome any advice and assistance
regarding transportation. For example, it would be really nice
if there was some Texan Extropian who planned to drive home
from San Jose... I can't drive but I could defray expenses
and provide conversation :) More realistically, if anyone
can suggest cheap ways to get around within California,
within Texas, or from one to the other, I'd appreciate it.
