We never put either government in place. Saddam came to power all on his
own brutal means, and the Taliban were merely one faction in the
Mujahedin alliance. I suppose we were depending on the traditions of
honor in muslim culture for people to not stab their friends in the
back, but ignoring the tradition of Hassan the Asassin.
Using your logic, we put Ortega, Castro, and Ho Chi Minh all into power.
