It might not be expensive. It an auto-pilot did most of the
work, then the telefactor would only be needed at stress points,
like landing, take-off, etc. And probably not usually then (I
believe that military planes can already land themselves). That
means that you would need considerably fewer "pilots". Etc.
This would cut staffing requirements.
You could end up saving money. The problem would be in selling
this option to the passengers. And the FAA, also, but really to
the passengers.
