They both look like direct hits. For the second one, there's video
evidence. For the first one, the fact that there was no trail of debris all
around immediately after the crash seems to show that the plane was absorbed
right into the building.
The B-17 that hit the ESB was not only going slower and had much less fuel
onboard, its pilot wasn't intentionally trying to take out the building.
