I suspect the good senator was doing a bit of theatrics, for which
he can be forgiven.

So true. In theology school, we used to entertain each other by
trying to come up with biblical based lines of reasoning for
*any* position that one could name. then the exact opposite.
We were far too silly. For instance, someone would challenge
us to find biblical evidence advising whether we should be democrat
or republican. We might say, obviously left wing democrat,
because Isaiah 32:7,8 sayeth:

"...he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying
words, even when the needy speaketh right. But the liberal
deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand..."

Then we would counter, oh no, the bible advises us to be
conservative, for Proverbs 11:25 sayeth

"The liberal soul shall be made fat." Well, ya dont want to
be made fat, do ya? Heart disease and all that.

etc. We could find some goofy line of reasoning for anything
you want to prove. You can do the same trick with the Koran
or Escher Godel Bach. spike
