As you say, the limiting factors on nanotechh are energy, mass, and
designs. Fixing carbon is energetically very expensive; even worse
if you're trying to do it mechanochemically as you have to catch
air molecules. You don't see short doubling times if you have to
fix carbon; you do far better if it's already there.
