I agree with you, especially if the other person is armed with a knife,
gun or something else.
For example, I doubt that I would do well in any bare-handed self-defense
confrontation with a person armed with a knife. I remember a few of my
martial arts lessons, but I have zero confidence that I could carry it out.
I have much more confidence to defend myself against an aggressive
unarmed person.
I had two firearms that I sold a few years ago, when it was clear that
my repetitive strain injury wouldn't permit me to practice anymore at
a shooting range regularly. Because of my inability to practice, they
were stupid weapons for me to depend my life on.
