Yes, I think this could be done. I would approach the problem by having the
blimp change shape as it increased in speed. The design would fold up to make
the transition from lighter-than-air to conventional lift. If air displacement
is by He, I would liquefy it during fold up and save it. When materials are
strong enough to use vacuum flotation techniques, this step would not be
needed.
