This is a plausible coding rate. When I am working on an interesting
project and really have my mind wrapped around the design, I can produce
about 500 lines of clean and elegant C code a day. I've written 10k LoC
in a month while working in design spaces that I am very comfortable with
(in this particular case, database kernels/engines).
One thing I have noticed is that while my OO code is usually smaller, I
typically generate functionality at about the same rate as procedural
code. The difference between OO and procedural models for me is where the
time is spent. Maintenance on clean OO and procedural code is the same in
my experience; the benefits of most programming models can also be
liabilities depending on the context.
