Right; you'd rather hire thugs, give them badges, and have them armed and willing to kill for you... anything as long as it's not your responsibility.
Of course back in reality-land there's no reason why everyone should be armed; merely the fact that some small proportion of people are armed with concealed weapons causes a significant drop in crime rates.
