I also read Atlas Shrugged about five years ago while spending a weekend
holed up at a freinds San Juan Island estate. I found that as long as I
skipped the 20 page soliloquiys in the middle of the book, it was rather
a decent, if dark, read. Given the time in which it was written, one can
see the sense of urgent intensity on the part of the writer to warn
against the tidal wave of "peoples democratic republics" taking root
across the planet, and the burgeoning socialistic hold on domestic
politics.
