Only if they want to be well informed. The right to be an ignorant fool
is a well recognized, if informal right here in the US.
TOday, people associate a tyrant and tyranny with autocratic or
totalitarian rule, when the original title was applied to rulers who
appealed to the masses as populists, seeking to outmaneuver the landed
gentry, the ruling aristocracy. For this reason, people like Buchanan
and Clinton, Perot and Forbes can all be considered tyrants or aspiring
tyrants. For this, one must fear the tyranny of the masses more than
some tin pot dictator, for popular injustice is more legitimate in the
eyes of history than injustice by rule of one.
For this reason, I personally would support instant democracy only in a
society of a certified well informed populace. I prefer Plato's
intellectual technocracy to a fully enfranchised populace.
