The oldest confirmed individual alive (now or ever) is Jeanne Calment,
a resident of Arles, France who is now 122 years old.
Madame Calment reputedly remembers being introduced to Vincent Van
Gough as a young girl. She was apparently not very impressed by him.
I will point out that Madame Calment has been what society would
consider "elderly" for most of her life -- an interesting notion from
my perspective.
