The fact that science is taking the word "immortality" and giving it stature
is shaking up religious and spiritual communities. It's also causing these
same communities to rethink their faiths. As these communities dodge reason
and cover their eyes and ears to technological progress, they too shall
slowly, awkwardly, stubbornly move into the future. And, I wouldn't be
surprised if there aren't a whole slew of closet supporters of science in
hopes of it benefiting their own immortal cause.

Indefinite lifespan, or indefinite longevity are more apt phrases -- a bit
more transhumans, while immortality has a strong reference to humans.
