MOVIE: _Pi_

Hi all,

It is not often that I'll rave about a movie on-list, but tonight I watched
a movie which is more than deserving of mention here.

I watched the DVD version of a low-budget indie movie called _Pi_; though I
had not heard of it prior, the movie's cover caused me to pick it up, and
the description on the back caused me to rent it. In short, it is a movie
about number theory (namely Fibonacci numbers and to a lesser extent, chaos
theory). However, despite being a movie about math, it is also extremely
artistic and entertaining. While it was shot wholly in grainy black and
white, such treatment actually enhances the movie rather than detracts from it.

_Pi_ is rather short as movies go, being only 80 minutes, though the DVD
version has a lot of bonus footage. I don't want to give any more of the
premise away, but suffice it to say that it is almost like a darker,
condensed _Godel Escher Bach_ and alludes to both AI and Singularity.

_Pi_ is a very conceptual movie, and one I *highly* recommend.
