I do not recall the details, but I have read that a number of
scientists were quite displeased with the definition of god/atheist
in one of these large-scale polls; it forced them into appearing to
be something they are not, and seriously skewed the results. As well,
if the poll was not anonymous, you have the fear-of-criticism factor
to consider, which could easily explain figures like 90% atheist.
(As, of course, could their being actual atheists.)
